I recently came across a Travian strategy I’ve seen work like magic. However to implement it there is a catch: You need to have a team of dedicated players who are accountable to each other. This is relatively easy to accomplish if you use sitters and have sit-checks. It also helps to have a private forum externally hosted (not on Travian server) that stays up year-long. This builds up a sense of community.

The strategy players on your attacker’s mind a little, which is probably why it’s so effective especially since no one does it.

Let’s say you have an incoming attack. The typical thing to do is to message your alliance and send out a request (through one of the leaders) for reinforcements to the village that is suspected to have a real attack (with catapults and/or chiefs). Everyone in the alliance will send out 100 – 500 units to “help out”. If you have 60 members in your alliance, you can typically expect to get help from 10 – 15. Say each of these sent 500 troops. That gives you a maximum of 7000 defensive troops, coupled with your own to hold out against a 35,000 troop hammer.

Am I the only one who sees this not working? Type these numbers in a combat simulator and see what comes out. They ALL die.

Now what if you had 100% cooperation in your alliance whereby anyone who didn’t send 75% of their troops was immediately booted out? You’d have at least 25 players sending reinforcements (who are within range) and you’d have closer to 50,000 or 60,000 troops in the village to defend against the 35,000 hammer.

Some will die, but the attacker will take the most damages. This is called teamwork and when a team of friends who come back round after round prove themselves by working together like this they become unstoppable.

I won’t mention the name of the alliance I learned this from, but I will say that they were #1 on a speed server for the entire round.

Waiting for resources to trickle in by the hour can be a slow mind-numbing process. To counter this problem, you may want to combine other strategies that allow you to grow faster. This is especially important if you are a Roman because for the first half of the game you will play less of an active role.

Regardless of your tribe, you always want to be growing faster than everyone around you. Here are a few tips to get you thinking in the right frame of mind. Remember that there are numerous ways of growing fast in Travian, but if you focus on these and push them to their limits you’ll find your climbing score soaring as well as the amount of troops you can build.

Raid inactive players: Raiding active players is fun, but in-actives don’t fight back and hence you can send your weaker raiding troops to scoop up as many resources as possible with little/no loss. The fewer troops you lose, the more you have available to raid other players and grow faster.

Only build resource tiles: If you want to grow you will need resources. To do this, make sure you spend a few days building up only resource tiles. There is no point in bringing a building like your armory to a high level if you will have to wait weeks before needing to do your upgrades. Focus on building the buildings that bring you resources and upgrade your resource tiles too.

Get vassals: When you farm players they tend to cranny up. If you send catapults then they put troops in their villages. What happens if they have no troops? They complain. And this is when you strike a deal with them. Don’t ask them to send you 1 hr’s worth of resources for the rest of the game since no one will agree to such harsh terms. Instead determine a specific time. Having a few vassals (who actually send the resources) will let you focus your troops on other farms.

Raid and crop-lock active players: The Teuton way of raiding players is to send three mace men…if they come back then that means there are no troops and resources to be gathered. With the effective raiding of mace men, you should be raiding 100-200 players every day (This is doesn’t take hours but you need to know a trick). If you can afford troop loss, by all means raid active players since they probably have more resources to help you grow.

Use gold: If you run a Travian-Plus account you will get an extra 25% of resources. Using the NPC tool is also extremely handy at the beginning of the game to use up the extra resources you have (that will get stolen from raids anyway) to build as many raiding troops as you can.

The market: You can trade for profit on the market. Some players will offer 5000 crop for 2500 iron. When you get the 5000 crop you can NPC it on a 1:1 basis into iron. That way you double your resources.

Make sure you pay close attention to the first 2 months of a server (or few weeks on speed servers). These are the most important stages of the game and they usually set the tone for the rest of the server. They also determine your enemies, so make sure you show everyone who opposes you who is boss by growing rapidly with these 6 tips for growing faster.

Everyone who is not in your alliance is a potential farm, and as soon as you get so much as 1 wood from them, BOOM! They’re a farm (at least to you)

But quad domination isn’t all about raiding the hell out of everyone in your 7×7. It also has a lot to do with making sure the other players who are raiding non-stop lose their troops so YOU get the resources that they could potentially be raiding.

How can you do this? Well for starters you scout villages in search of troops.

If someone attacks you, you can set up your outgoing troops in another tab so that just before they attack, you “dodge” my moving your troops toward their village, cancel the attack, and send it back out right away.

Time your attack (same troop type works well) so that your attack lands just seconds (less than 10) after your enemy’s troops get back home. The time it takes the player to click “send troops” and select them your attack will have landed and destroyed his troops.

It’s your job to kill them off. There’s a way to do this known as a “counter attack”. I was going to explain it all, but MokMonster from the Us forums has a good explanation.

If your attacker is sending infantry at you, look at the speed of their infantry unit. (Like, legi move at 6).

I have no idea if this program exists... I just found the picture and liked it.

Find something in your army which moves at the same speed… and send at least one of those to slow everything down to that speed.

A few seconds (~10-15 is prolly best, but never more than 89) before the attack hits, send your troops away. When they are 10 seconds out, and the attack is 9 seconds away (or however you want to have it set up) cancel your attack/rein. Your troops will now return just after the attack.

(set this part up earlier)
You should have a 2nd browser tab or window open. Click on your opponent’s town and click “send troops”. Put all your troops that you want to attack with and hit OK once.

Dodge as described in paragraph 2. Then, the second your troops return, go to the 2nd window/tab you have set up and quickly click on OK again… that should get your troops hitting your attacker’s town about 1-3 seconds after they return home.

If you don’t have troops that move the same speed as your attacker, or you want to hit them from a different town, you’ll have to do some math, use the link provided, or set up an Excel sheet (my personal choice).

Source: Travian US Forums

Now some boast that this tool is useful, personally I just use the above explanation when I do it myself. Please… this page is nothing but confusing.

Just a quick reminder to everyone to demolish your Blacksmith and Armory once you’ve done all your upgrades. Otherwise it becomes very obvious come mid-game which village on an account is the hammer one = usually the one with the most population (that is or isn’t the capital). You want to be sure you have as many granaries in your hammer village as you can too, which is great because they create less high population than, say an academy.

In order to support your troops you will need vast amounts of wheat. You may already have a 15-cropper village, but what if you need a second one? How about a third? How do you know what to build and what not to build in these villages so that you don’t lose all your crop production to buildings, or worse still make your cropper villages chief targets for other players?

These are the buildings that you will need to build in a cropper, regardless of the level of fields that you build in it: granary, mill, bakery, main building, hero’s mansion, warehouse, market & trade post.

In order to build the trade post you will need a level 10 stable and level 3 blacksmith. Once you have build these and have your trade-post built you can demolish them with your level 10 main building. This way you will save crop hourly/production for troops You will also want to have 1-4 warehouses depending on how high you want to bring your crop levels. Having 3 granaries is also a good goal so that you don’t lose too much crop from overflow.

Here are some of the buildings you do NOT want to build: brickworks, iron foundry, sawmill, level 20 barracks, & armory. As mentioned, you will have to build the blacksmith anyway, but take it down later.

These are the buildings that you need in a cropper where you do not build troops in. Building your troops in the same village that feeds them is a different option.

A lot of experienced players are having problems with the newly proposed Travian rules that TravianGames is testing on the Com10 server. One of the biggest objections is the rule that a village will only be able to send attacks/call-back-reinforcements depending on the level of the rally point. This isn’t so bad, but here’s the real kicker: Only 4 attack movements will be able to be sent out per level of the rally point. This means even if your rally point is level 20 you won’t be able to send out more than 80 attacks at a time.

What this means for you:

This is actually a great change because it means that players will be raiding less, which means there will be more resources on the table for you to steal. Players who have critically thought about how they are going to evolve their raiding strategies and tricks are going to be the most successful ones at keeping their upper ranks and building the biggest hammers.

You will also still be able to send out 400 attacks each time you send out troops; you just won’t be able to do it all from one village. There’s a way to go about doing this that’s a little complex. Basically what it suggests is that you create a separate raiding outpost from each of your villages. These villages are spread out a little so that you can make the best use of space, but not spread yourself out to thin (opening yourself to attacks without being able to get reinforcements in your village in time).

It involves giving out all kinds of information that is useful, but only if you know the whole picture of what is going on.

For example on the right you can see negative crop with a decent hammer (if it could be called that). the picture is saying that even with 5 granaries it’s practically impossible to be away from the computer for much longer than 3.5 hours.

In other words, build a lot of granaries if you’re planning on building a big hammer.

But what is missing?

How about how to build the hammer in the first place?

The answer to this is very simple.

Step 1. Register your Travian account, start building up your resource fields and a few crannies.

Step 2.
