Regardless of your tribe, you always want to be growing faster than everyone around you. Here are a few tips to get you thinking in the right frame of mind. Remember that there are numerous ways of growing fast in Travian, but if you focus on these and push them to their limits you’ll find your climbing score soaring as well as the amount of troops you can build.

Raid inactive players: Raiding active players is fun, but in-actives don’t fight back and hence you can send your weaker raiding troops to scoop up as many resources as possible with little/no loss. The fewer troops you lose, the more you have available to raid other players and grow faster.

Only build resource tiles: If you want to grow you will need resources. To do this, make sure you spend a few days building up only resource tiles. There is no point in bringing a building like your armory to a high level if you will have to wait weeks before needing to do your upgrades. Focus on building the buildings that bring you resources and upgrade your resource tiles too.

Get vassals: When you farm players they tend to cranny up. If you send catapults then they put troops in their villages. What happens if they have no troops? They complain. And this is when you strike a deal with them. Don’t ask them to send you 1 hr’s worth of resources for the rest of the game since no one will agree to such harsh terms. Instead determine a specific time. Having a few vassals (who actually send the resources) will let you focus your troops on other farms.

Raid and crop-lock active players: The Teuton way of raiding players is to send three mace men…if they come back then that means there are no troops and resources to be gathered. With the effective raiding of mace men, you should be raiding 100-200 players every day (This is doesn’t take hours but you need to know a trick). If you can afford troop loss, by all means raid active players since they probably have more resources to help you grow.

Use gold: If you run a Travian-Plus account you will get an extra 25% of resources. Using the NPC tool is also extremely handy at the beginning of the game to use up the extra resources you have (that will get stolen from raids anyway) to build as many raiding troops as you can.

The market: You can trade for profit on the market. Some players will offer 5000 crop for 2500 iron. When you get the 5000 crop you can NPC it on a 1:1 basis into iron. That way you double your resources.

Make sure you pay close attention to the first 2 months of a server (or few weeks on speed servers). These are the most important stages of the game and they usually set the tone for the rest of the server. They also determine your enemies, so make sure you show everyone who opposes you who is boss by growing rapidly with these 6 tips for growing faster.

So far we’ve gone over a number of tips and tricks to help you along in Travian. This game is highly addictive. If you play it for more than a few weeks you will find yourself planning your day around the game; unless you’re playing the speed server-then it will take a matter of days.

All addiction aside, Travian is a war game and no matter how “nice” you try to be, you will eventually get attacked. Here are a few tips on what kinds of troops you should be building to take advantage of defense bonuses.

Travian Palace

Romans:

Praetorians are probably the best defense units in the game, especially when you calculate the wheat cost/points of defense. Put 1000 of these in any village with a level 20 wall and every attacker will think twice about attacking you. While Macemen and Phalanx are fun to kill for hero points, most offensive players will not go out of their way to kill Praetorians. As a defensive player you only really need to build thousands of these tanks.

Teutons:

If you’re a Teuton, you’ll notice that Mace-Men cost next to nothing and carry a lot of resources. While you want to build spears and trade for Praetorians with someone to build up a perfect defense (100 spears are worth about 65 Praetorians, for trading), start building maces before your academy is up. You will rely on mace men for resources more than your fields. Plus, Teutons have a bonus against crannies. A few thousand spears will help you out tremendously, but try to trade some for Praetorians, as they are the best.

Gaul:

Gauls have Phalanx-which are pretty much useless, unless you upgrade them, but you can build large quantities of them in a relatively short amount of time. It’s not uncommon to build 20,000 (on the speed server) over a weekend. Their strength lies in numbers.

This basic guide will give you something to work towards as you learn about the game. Once you get the hang of it you should attack other players. In the meantime build defense and experience in the game using this article as a guide.

This is cool!

Once your hero gets to level 50 or so, you begin to wonder how many troops it would take to destroy it.

Let’s take a look at my hero “Scissors”:

Now this guy’s 10,900 swords attack means that he represents about 155 Imperians. If I go to this link, and input 155 Imperians on a “raid” and 3000 macemen being attacked, most of Imperians die.

Seems fair.

But get this, if I have my hero (remember I’m putting 100 for attack in the hero section at the bottom of the page) raid these 3000 mace men, 1155 of them die…and the hero survives!

Since heroes are pretty common today (we hear about heroic people all the time!), but macemen aren’t, I thought I’d bring in something that we are familiar with and know all to well what they look like. Something a little more scalable.

Elephants.

Trial and error gives me 125. So it takes 125 elephants to kill a raiding hero. Which means the hero can kill 124 on his own.

Imagine that!!

If you’re offensive, the answer is simple, keep pumping points into offensive % while destroying catapults, mace men and spears (enemy of course). Ultimately you want him to look something like this:

Attacco:                         10900 (+) 100
Difesa:                                540/440 (+) 6
Bonus offensivo:     20% (+) 100
Bonus difensivo:           16.6% (+) 83
Rigenerazione:              165/Giorno (+) 11

Don’t waste points in defense % (at first) and don’t use points up on your hero’s defense either. If he dies, you can always bring him back…until a certain level that is…

I’ve never seen a defensive teut…so I’m just going to assume you’re offensive.

A WW (World Wonder) attack! I love looking at these! For some reason there’s something cool about seeing a hammer smashed up against a defense full of question marks! Those question marks sure powerful!

This is from last round on Italian servers. As the current one is drawing to an end I wonder what kind of hammers we’re going to have.

In other news, my friend lost his 232,000 mace men 50,000 TK hammer to getting his village chiefed last week…

Any ideas why?
